Play is a universal language of children and therefore a great way to support healing and the processing of emotions. Friendly and fun materials are used to help children say metaphorically what they can't communicate with words. Items such as puppets, sand tray, games, art, and story telling are used in therapy sessions. Children as young as 3 years old and occasionally into the teen years may benefit from play therapy.
Sometimes families go through challenges and difficult situations. Family sessions with a therapist can assist in helping the family resolve conflicts, improve relationships, and heal together.
The Play Clinic helps parents and caregivers enhance relationships with their children using attachment theory and Theraplay informed practice. "Theraplay is a child and family therapy for building and enhancing attachment, self-esteem, trust in others, and joyful engagement."
Occupational therapy uses activity as well as talking to support healing, personal growth, and life satisfaction. An OT can help children who struggle to do everyday tasks as well as those with various social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties including those on the spectrum and with sensory processing issues. For kids, this includes tasks that are part of learning and functioning well at school. OT works on the skills kids need to do the things they struggle with.
"Talk" therapy for youth and adults uses models such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative therapy, Sandtray, systems theory, and other techniques and interventions to support individuals in working through challenges and stress they are faced with. We work closely with you to help you reach your goals through a trauma informed, attachment based lens.
